Sometimes, keeping our mouths shut only serves ourselves and our own fears. Silently watching someone jump off a cliff—or putting up with someone’s poor treatment of us or watching another get hurt without doing anything just isn’t useful much less compassionate.
Whether we speak up or not and how is a choice.
We might not know the best way to do it, and we might not think we’re being very peaceful or compassionate if we speak up.
But “keeping the peace” because we’re afraid to speak up or because we think someone else will do it isn’t doing anyone any good.
